My Thoughts on: Clayface

Ok now that I am all caught up with what I have posted on facebook its time to start posting new articles. So my first new article is about a Batman villain who isn't as well known as the Joker is but he is still very cool. Without further rambling I present to you "My Thought on: Clayface"

Now like I said in my Joker article I am not familiar with the comic books of the Batman series. How ever I am familiar with Clayface from the Batman The Animated Series as well as The Batman and I really thought this character was cool his powers the way he looked and his origin (The Batman first Clayface has the better origin story). His powers were ones that really could be very amazing if he had the ability to use them right. So let us get all yucky as we dive into Clayface.

Lets start with Matt Hagen of Batman the Animated series. Hagen was a has been actor past his prime and horribly disfigured in a car accident. He was approached by a crooked businessman/mobster Roland Daggett who says he can fix Hagen's face if he tests his cream called RenuYou which will allow Hagen to shape his face like clay. Daggett forced Hagen to commit crimes using the drug to look like higher ups including Bruce Wayne. IT turns out the RenuYou is very addictive which leads to Matt breaking into Daggett's compound to steal some of the RenuYou however he is caught and Daggett's man forces Hagen to overdose on the drug thinking it would kill him. However the drug loosens is genetic make up turning him into a blob monster and he takes the name Clayface.

Now what can Clayface do well he can shape shift. He can look like anyone he wants for a period of time. However the coolest part of being a meta-morph is the fact that he can turn his hands into blades and other weapons. The best part of having a liquid like body is being able to stretch, shoot, split, and change it in many ways. Clayface has only a few weaknesses including electricity and freezing. The only other main one would be solvents (like to undo glue and other adhesives.) However unlike the Joker the Batman the Animated Series Clayface is not my favorite my favorite Clayface is from the show "The Batman".

Well let us look at this Clayface. In this show there are two versions ofClayface the first one being my favorite with a better origin then the TAS version. Our first Clayface was once detective Ethan Bennett who is kind of like our two face for this show when it comes to clayface (Two Face was not featured in The Batman because the Dark Knight was being made.) Ethan like Harvey Dent was Bruce Wayne's best friend for a long time before fate changed things for the worse. Now unlike Haggen Bennett was actually transformed into Clayface by the Joker. Yes the Joker made this Clayface which serves as his motivation. This first Clayface will hunt down to the Joker and try to kill him. However when he first discovered he had this power he tried to use it to help him as a cop. However he lost his job because he could not control himself leading him to seek revenge. The relationship between Wayne/Batman and Bennett did cause some problems and also lead to Wayne trying to cure Bennett.

Now like I said Bennett is my favorite version of Clayface however like I also said there is a second Clayface in the series who was originally a ugly, untalented actor who was turned down for a part in a dog food commercial named Basil Karlo. Now his origin is similar to Matt Hagan's in the Animated Sereis being a washed up actor trying to reboot his career using the Clayface Drug. However he intended to become Clayface to use the shap shifting ability to help his career. However he is yet again turned down for the Dog Food part despite his improved face and body. This causes him to snap and attack the people in charge. This caused him to think his career before seeing that being a super villain has made him famous. This Clayface had the bigger body like Matt Hagen did in TAS. Now I haven't seen many episodes that involve this Clayface because I had stopped watching the show because I was usually still in bed.

So Clayface is a good villain with great powers that with the right motives can cause major chaos (If I had them then people should run bwahahahahahahaha I mean ummm LOOK A MONKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Ethan Bennett is my favorite version of Clayface having a darker story which I like. Matt Hagen is probably the second best having a pretty dark story but kind of lame. He never had much of a motive except for the first episode. As far as I am concerned Clayface is a great character who I would like to seen played in a sequel to the newer Batman Movies to see him made more realistic. So thats Clayface an underated member of the Batman Rouges Gallery. Stay tuned to my next "My Thoughts on" about Princess Zelda and Princess Peach.
